Game of Thrones and nudity

A news item on Game of Thrones is blown out proportion, or at least I think so. One of the actresses (Oona Chaplin) said that the following: “One of the girls in the show who got her kit off the most in the first couple of seasons now doesn’t at all because she said, ‘I want to be known for my acting not for my breasts. ”.  Who she is talking about is open for speculation but apperently fans of the show refer to Emilia Clarke. Why this is mentioned by her co-star and in what context this come up in left out, and to me that seems like bad journalism. Just picking out a piece of an interview with out the background story, well I don’t know. But it made me think.

The fact of the matter is that the nude scenes don’t effect the show, it problably gets more viewers, but for the main story it has no relevance what so ever, frankly I don’t even notice it that much and this were this dicussion take a turn. Are we a society so messed up that we are used to all this nudity and excess bloodshed. Take a look at Rome Season 1 episode 1 or the Spartacus tv series. The whole show is sex and violence. I mean I like a beautiful naked woman, like the next guy but it seems to me that in these shows it is just that, and the main story of the slave army rising is just a filling. I actually wonder what they would be with the sex?

Back to Game of Thrones, if one of the actresses say she has had enough of nude scenes that is her good right, I say. I mean who are we to go and say: ‘You’ve done it before so stop complaining, and just take of that dress, because you’ve done it before”. (I’ve actually heard this comment today). Than I am thinking that this world is really getting messed up.

Is the actresses in this matter is done with the nudity of her character we should respect that, cause again, it doesn’t add extra to the show. The story is comlex as it is, with all the characters i, that some don’t return for 1-or 2 episodes.. Take Vikings, one hell of show, violent, dark but no nudity, or hardly . Yes a woman bare ass and back, but not full frontal.

Does a tv show need to have the nudity and all the excess bloodshed to be a good show? No, Dr Who is good show and has nothing of the sort, simply because it’s wel written, and the actors choosen are great. Same goes for Vikings, great show great acting a. Game Of Thrones is a great show too and yes it has a lot of nudity, it is actually less in the books. So sex still sells, nut if one of the actresses say “I’ve had enough” than we need to except it, even if she been nude on the show before.

Now that this discission is out in the open it looks to me that our societyis degraded, and sex and violence is something we we do take for granted, whilst it shouldn’t be. Come think of it, it is a distrubing thought that some tend to think this way and turn it into a news items and react in shock and awe.

I say, just enjoy the show.

Star Wars and Disney .. New film set 2015

So my first post on Star Wars. I have always wanted to write about Star Wars since I am a huge fan of the original Trilogy. They are my all time favorite films and a have seen them too many times and still there great to watch. But yesterday the news came that Disney has bought Lucasarts Ltd and that a new film is set for 2015. The fan community was shocked and a wave of comments followed:

“So it’s true… I’ve felt a sudden disturbance in the force…”

” I’m not sure Disney are the right people to carry on these films, but the can’t be any worse than episodes 1,2 and 3. Lets just hope Hayden Christensen isn’t involved, shockingly bad acting.”

“Congratulations to George for today’s mega-deal! Can’t comment on Ep 7 before I have all the facts which are short supply right now-Patience – Mark Hamill”

“A lot of people asking me what I think of the Star Wars – Disney news. I was surprised at first, but I think I’m ok with it now (superfan’s) Eliot Sirota”.

I was shocked too, my first thought  was “Nooooooooooo”. But than I got me thinking. Why not Disney? I mean they did a good job on the Iron Man Trilogy and  The Avengers. The take over does have great prospects to all Star Wars fans out there.

Why am I saying this, well let me explain. Star Wars has such an expanded univers with infinte possiblities. First of all there are the books that came out after the original trilogy. Secondly George Lucas wrote stories for nine films and third the spinoffs e.g. standalone film about Boba Fett, which fans would love to see.

Another plus that Dinsey has take over is that other producers and director can now get to work on Star Wars. Nolan for instance did a great job on Batman if he could get cracking on Star Wars that could be interesting to see. Bruckheimer or Bay on other hand should never get involved in the Star Wars franchise (this is my onwn opinion). I meaan they make great films but this is not their cup of tea.

Josh Wendon is someone I’d like to see to do a Star Wars film, Serenity and Firefly are great so was The Avengers,  imagen what he can do with Star Wars.

There are great opertunities ahead now that the fresh minds can get cracking at the new film which is set for 2015, all we can do as fans is to sit down and wait it out, but I have great convindence ( after the initail shock) that Disney will reamain true to the very big Star Wars fan base, may be even Mara Jade Skywalker can finally come to life on the Big screen.

Seeing as Disney is also working on the S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series this also might happen to the already writen and long awaited Star Wars Live Action TV series, Star Wars: Underworld. “They take place between Episode III and Episode IV, that 20-year period when Luke is growing up. It’s not about Luke, but it’s about that period when the Empire is trying to take things [over].”

Rick McCallum on Star Wars : Underworld

George Lucus on the Dinsey take over.

Revolution… So far…

Revolution Revolution the new NBC series by Eric Kripke and produced by J.J. Abrams aired it’s fourth episode, time for a recap. For those who don’t know the show a plot summary. Revolution takes place in a post-apocalyptic dystopian future. Fifteen years earlier, an unknown phenomenon disabled all technology dependent on electricity on the planet, ranging from computers and electronics to car engines, jet engines, and batteries. People were forced to adapt to a world without functioning technology. Due to the collapse of government and public order, many areas are ruled by warlords and militias. The series focuses on the Matheson family, who possess a special device (resembling a flash drive) that is the key to not only finding out what happened fifteen years ago, but also a possible way to reverse its effects (source wikipedia).

In the first epsiode we’re introduced to the main characters. Ben Matheson (Tim Guinee) and his children: Charlie (Tracy Spiridakos) and Danny (Graham Rogers ), setting 15 years after the blackout. One day a millitia party, under the command of  Captain Tom Neville (Giancarlo Esposito) comes in the town, looking for Ben. When he sees them coming and gives a medaillon to a friend, Aaron ( Zak Orth). The militia  finds Ben and his son Danny tries to protect him, a scermish erupts and Ben is shot and dies. Danny is taken prisoner.

Charlie is determined to free her brother, but to do so she has to find her uncle Miles ( Billy Burke) and warn him that the militia is also coming for him. Aaron and Maggie (Anna Lise Phillips),  the woman who brought Charlie and Danny up, is joining them.

Miles MathesonThe quest can begin. They find Miles, but he is not what he appears to be. Millitia followed Charlie, and Miles turns out to be a kick ass soldier. After a few discussions he is willing to help Charlie find her brother, but he leaves the group to search for a “friend” who  he think is an asset to the party. So the group splits up. The story line get a new an interisting twist when it turns out that that Miles is the founding father the new republic and helped set up the militia.

Meanwhile Aaron and Maggie find a home which belonged to a woman named Grace (Maria Howell). She too has a medallion and a working pc. But she ‘s arrested by a unknown character and eveything is thrashed. When Aaron and Maggie arrive at her place and Aaron sees the broken pc. He wants to know what hapened and why someone still has pc and than…….. suddenly in Grace’s her house…. there is power, only briefly. They find out that it is the medallion causing it but have no clue whatsoever how it works. The group meet ups in eps 4, but keep their findings to themselves.. trust issues anyone? 🙂

So here we are after 4 esisodes. At first Charlie annoyed me because she did so much whinnig but she came around. But the characters Aaron and Miles make up for that. Aaron the nerd lost in a world without pc’s and internet. Miles the renegade. Looking forward to see the next episodes and I wonder what direction the show will take? The plot twist so far a nice and they keep me interested.

Revolution - Season 1

“The nominees should really be thankful that Helen Mirren isn’t nominated this year. (Claire Danes 2011)”

Nominations Emmy's The Emmy nominations are in so it is time to let the speculating begin. If I look at the list of ( mini) series nominated I can say one thing. Modern Family will win at least 1 award. But seriuosly, it is funny. When I first saw it I was like… this is one weird combination of people only to find out there family. Ed O’Neil as head of the family and Ty Burrel as Phil Dunphy, the guy is hilarious. Trying to keep up with all the modern technology, buzzwords and is clueless:

“Phil Dunphy: If you show enough houses, you learn all the tricks. Every realtor is just a ninja with a blazer. The average burglar breaks in and leaves clues everywhere, but not me. I’m completely clueless.”

Besides Phil, Gloria (Sofía Vergara who is nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series) is great. Her accent is ever so funny. But you have to see that for yourself, I can explain it. From all the nominees in this catagory I think she is the one that will be going home with the award.

Outstanding Comedy Series Nominees: To be honest. I have only seen The Big Bang and Modern Family so I have no idea what the other show are like but if I have to choose between these 2.. Big Bang is my personal favorite. Strong cast, great writing, and well see for yourself.

Outstanding Drama Series Nominees:
“Boardwalk Empire”
“Breaking Bad”
“Downton Abbey”
“Game of Thrones”
“Mad Men”

This is going to be a though catagory. All the series in here are great which makes it hard for the jury I think. From all these only Breaking Bad is starting to falter, which is a shame cause it started out good. But if I have to pick a winner I would choose between Game of Thrones and Downton Abby. Bot aired for 2 seasons and in both the sorylines and lead characters evolved. Downton Abby is a series which sets  just before and during WW1. The characters are protrayed in such a way, that you  as viewer,  wish you could intervene. To me tis is what make a show great. That you start to get empahy for the characters.

This is also the feeling I get when watching Game of Thrones ( I wish I could wring Joffery’s neck myself).  Game of Thrones is a whole different serries. You either like it or not. It can be described in just one single word: Epic!  The two differ so much that they should not be in the same catagory, but this goes for all the shows in this catagory. Mad Men, too, is great! But there can only be one winner. My guess: Downton Abby and Peter Dinkelage will hopefully win the award for “Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series”. He won last year, but he should win it again. Why? His character, funny, strong, protraits power and humility ( when its suits him ).

I could work down the whole list of nominees bot than the item would be very very long:).. For futher info on the Emmy’s check out IMDB
