Randy: Stab 2? Who would wanna do that? Sequels suck! Oh please, please! By definition alone, sequels are inferior films!
Mickey: It’s bullshit generalization. Many sequels have surpassed their originals.
This is a quote from Scream 2 and a great opening for this entry which I wanted to write for a while and re-wrote a few times cause it’s a good discussion, but one that needs considerable thought. Sequels most movies have them. Most great film studio stay on the familiar path, simply because it’s easy money, and if the sequel is received good, heck, let’s do a third. Don’t get me wrong I am a huge fan of the original Star Wars and Indiana Jones. But things go bump in the night, from time to time. Not all movie need it sequels, because the first part already s€&@$£. Sister act is a great example of a bad first, why they did a 2 is beyond me and even a musical. Most first movies are great but then they try and redo all in a second installment. Take for instance Ghostbusters (1984) was great , part 2 entertaining but not as great as the original. The same goes for Gremlins (1984). The original was fantastic! 20 Years after the movie is still great. But prt 2, well we could do without. It had some funny moments but again the first one can’t be beat.
A few weeks ago I read a rumor that WarnerBros has plans/ideas of remaking Gremlims…. I understand it’s outdated but if they would do a remake we probably get a CGI Gizmo(who would want that?. Like Yoda. In Empire and ROTJ he’s was a puppet, and besides his funny way of speaking, that was so loved about him. The CGI version in the prequels, was not Yoda. He was too shiny, I mean too animated instead of the awesome puppet.
But we’re wondering of, back to the sequels. Sometimes I really wonder why? But the thing is, most memorable films have a part 2 ,3 or 4. Think of a great movie and bet you, it has a sequel or is part of a trilogy. Are we as moviegoers so easily entertained? If we look at the classics like Citizen Kane, Casablanca, High Noon, To Catch a Thief, White Heat, hits in their time and no sequels. But back than very few sequels were made.
So are sequels inferior to the original? I think that question will always remain open for debate, as long as, we, the public love it, then why should the studio’s change. How far will they go making sequels, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, basically blasphemy. The last installments of the Die Hard franchise and Resident Evil, both were bad but still they’re thinking of doing a part 6. Actually Resident Evil already has a release date.
And with that said, here are a few trailers of great sequels:
28 Weeks Later
The Color of Money
The Dark Knight
Star Wars The Empire Strikes Back
Indiana Jones and the LAst Crusade
Die Hard 2 (Die Harder)
What is your favorite sequel?
Last week the trailer for Iron Man 3 was released. The plot is unknown at this time. Rumor has it Tony Stark/Iron Man will head to China to face his toughest opponent, Mandarin, played by sir Ben Kingsley. So what can we learn from the trailer.
In the begining we see Iron Man lying in the snow, who looks like he’s been defeated and reminising his life and and how he treated those he loved. Also he talking about New York, a reverence to what happenedin The Avengers? Peppern Potts , his true love being taken from his bed while he sleeps, by someone in Iron Man suit.. Lt. Col. James ‘Rhodey’ Rhodes?
In the next few shots the @#$% hits the fan and The Madarin in being introduced, who calls himself a Teacher and tells us lesson nr one “Hero’s, there is no such thing”. After which he attacks Strak’s mansion……Iron Man drowns?
A quick breakdown of the trailer, which is a great one. Actually one of the best I’ve seen in a while. But to me it raises more questions than answers. Since it is the last one in the series, will it be the end of Stark? If so where in the Timeline will The Avengers 2 will take place? Will he get help from some of the other members of the Avenger Initiative? One can already exculde the Hulk for help, since it is reported that he will not have a cameo. Kevin Feige confirmed that we would not be seeing The Hulk in the third installment of the Iron Man franchise.
If there is more info on Iron Man 3 we will let you know asap.
And of course the trailer for Iron Man 3
Iron Man 3 will be released on May 3, 2013. Starring : Robert Downey Jr., Guy Pearce, Ben Kingsley, Gwyneth Paltrow, Paul Bettany, Jon Favreau & Don Cheadle

A few days ago some news on Transformers 4 was published… TF4 will have dfifferent robots. What does this mean.. No more Optimus Prime? Megatron was already out opf the picture since he died in the last installment. But Optiumus , I am sorry to see him go. As a kid he was one of my favorite Autobot toys/character. So why this change? Hasbro appearently did make enough on the merchandising so they think it is time to “refresh” the Autonomous Robotic Organisms from the planet Cybertron. So who will they pick for their up coming installment. Let’s have a look what choice there are.
For starters there are the Dinobots, who I really hope will be in TF4, because I thought they were missing from the other three parts.
Dinobots… Grimlock – The team leader, transforms into a Tyrannosaurus rex. Slag – The second-in-command, transforms into a Triceratops. Sludge – Transforms into an Apatosaurus.Snarl – Transforms into a Stegosaurus. Swoop – Transforms into a Pteranodon. and Paddles – Transforms into a Elasmosaurus. They were not created on Earth, but are Cybertronian Autobots and function as an Autobot elite special ops team under the direct command of Grimlock.
The new leader, well if they boot Optimus Prime, next in line will Rodimus formerly known as Hot Rod, who in the animated film from 1986, became the Autobot leader after Optimus died.
Also Omega Supreme can be called upon. He is the Autobots last line of defence against the Decepticons. He is one of the most powerfull Autobts next to Grimlock. Omega can split his body into three parts: 1- his body becomes a laser cannon tank, which acts as perimeter patrol for 2: the rocket base formed by his legs and backpack, which is in turn capable of launching his third component, a rocket formed from his arms, into planetary orbit.
Well so far a few suggestions for new Autobots, but lets have a look at what new Decepitcons they can use. First up are the Quintessons. Sinister robotic creatures with five sided heads, each side with a different face, including the face of death the others are, War, Wrath, Wisdom and Judgement. Quintessons are the creators of all the Transformers on Cybertron millions of years ago. After a rebellion the Autobots drove them from Cybertron to a planet they called Quintessa, which they blew up at a later stage to try to prevent Autobot captives and invaders from escaping. So one can consider them a fine spieces of robots.
Ofcourse they should consider bringing Galvatron to the big screen. The new leader of the Decipticons after Megatron dies. Apparently there’s much debate on if the two are the same. But to my knowledge from the animated series from the 80’s Galvatron is a diffenrent robot who is even more without scruples than Megatron. His folowing is no less different. They all would be a welcome to the new robots Hasbro wants Bay to introduce.
Aother new suggestion for new Robots could be: Ultra Magnus, Kupp, Blurr, Astrotrain, Cyclonus, Scourge, The Insecticons, Predacons etc. So there is plenty to choose from. But the question is what does Hasbro want. If they continue down the path with what they did to Battleship, the new Transformers movie will not cut it. Fans expect a good story , a good “human” cast and a film worthy to the Transformers “themselves”. It is early to say anything usefull about the up coming installment, since it will not be released untill 2014, but hopefully time will tell.

The First, The Legend, The Man of Steel. Out there to protect us from has since 1933! Yes that is right since 1933! Superman one of the few survivors from Krypton and created in a time of great depression. The world was in turmoil and changing fast. Unemployment rate in the U.S. was around 25%, and in some countries rose as high as 33% and effected poor and rich countries alike. It was during this time Superman was “born”! People needed a hero to look up to, fighting crooked businessmen and politicians, but this is speculation. Funny aspect is that Superman first motion picture, starring the late Christopher Reeve as Clark Kent/Kal El, came to the big screen in the late seventies when we were on the verge of a economic crisis.
The creator himself said that Superman may have been inspired “due to the death of his father in 1932, a year before Superman was created. “Your father dies in a robbery, and you invent a bulletproof man who becomes the world’s greatest hero” ( theory by Gerard Jones and Brad Meltzer . (source wikipedia).
So here we are 2012 amidst an other world wide economic crisis and here comes Superman! This time the movie is in the capable hands of Zack Snyder, who brought us 300 and Watchmen, and Christopher Nolan who we know has done a very great job on The Dark Knight Trilogy! So What can we expect from this team? If we have a look at the trailer we can see battered Clark Kent, far far away from the ever so happy, clumsy and bright Clark Kent we know from The other Superman movies. Is this Man of Steel struggeling in these hard economic times? So far I do not know what to expect from the Superman except that after having seen The Dark Knight Rises and Watchmen I am really looking foward to see Man of Steel.
Remake? Reboot? Or are we turning to Superman again in this chaotic time because we need a Superman to give us that feeling of safety, that everything will be fine, that there is someone who ‘protects” us?
Man of Steel starring Henry Cavill, Russell Crowe and Amy Adams. In cinemas June 14, 2013.
