Game of Thrones and nudity

A news item on Game of Thrones is blown out proportion, or at least I think so. One of the actresses (Oona Chaplin) said that the following: “One of the girls in the show who got her kit off the most in the first couple of seasons now doesn’t at all because she said, ‘I want to be known for my acting not for my breasts. ”.  Who she is talking about is open for speculation but apperently fans of the show refer to Emilia Clarke. Why this is mentioned by her co-star and in what context this come up in left out, and to me that seems like bad journalism. Just picking out a piece of an interview with out the background story, well I don’t know. But it made me think.

The fact of the matter is that the nude scenes don’t effect the show, it problably gets more viewers, but for the main story it has no relevance what so ever, frankly I don’t even notice it that much and this were this dicussion take a turn. Are we a society so messed up that we are used to all this nudity and excess bloodshed. Take a look at Rome Season 1 episode 1 or the Spartacus tv series. The whole show is sex and violence. I mean I like a beautiful naked woman, like the next guy but it seems to me that in these shows it is just that, and the main story of the slave army rising is just a filling. I actually wonder what they would be with the sex?

Back to Game of Thrones, if one of the actresses say she has had enough of nude scenes that is her good right, I say. I mean who are we to go and say: ‘You’ve done it before so stop complaining, and just take of that dress, because you’ve done it before”. (I’ve actually heard this comment today). Than I am thinking that this world is really getting messed up.

Is the actresses in this matter is done with the nudity of her character we should respect that, cause again, it doesn’t add extra to the show. The story is comlex as it is, with all the characters i, that some don’t return for 1-or 2 episodes.. Take Vikings, one hell of show, violent, dark but no nudity, or hardly . Yes a woman bare ass and back, but not full frontal.

Does a tv show need to have the nudity and all the excess bloodshed to be a good show? No, Dr Who is good show and has nothing of the sort, simply because it’s wel written, and the actors choosen are great. Same goes for Vikings, great show great acting a. Game Of Thrones is a great show too and yes it has a lot of nudity, it is actually less in the books. So sex still sells, nut if one of the actresses say “I’ve had enough” than we need to except it, even if she been nude on the show before.

Now that this discission is out in the open it looks to me that our societyis degraded, and sex and violence is something we we do take for granted, whilst it shouldn’t be. Come think of it, it is a distrubing thought that some tend to think this way and turn it into a news items and react in shock and awe.

I say, just enjoy the show.

Road to the oscars prt 9

“Tonight is the night of nights. Today, as you read this, you are en route to the great adventure for which you have trained for over two years.” Wrong speech, but tonight is Oscar night, so for some tonights is the night..This also mean we are done on our journey. Amour is the last one.

The film is about Georges and Anne who are in their eighties, retired music teachers. One morning  Anne has an attack. After a surgery gone wrong, the right half of her body is paralyzed. The two decide take care of her at their own apartment. This all goes “we” until Anne get a second sesure. The way George and Anne handle the situation is amazing. They kibble, fight, laugh and cry together in this film the shows how a couple at their old age love each other and sacrifise all just be with each other. It’s brilliant film. Not like all the other nominees and can’t be compared with any of them.

I can’t say a lot about it you just have to go see it, It’s heartwarming and hopefully at my old age and something happens to me, which make it difficult for to take of myself, I hope my counterpart will be so patient, caring and loving.

It follows a long line French drama film and can proudly take its place in French Austrian film history.

Amour is nominated for: Best Picture, Best Actress (Emmanuelle Riva), Best Director (Michael Haneke), Best Original Screenplay(Haneke), Best Foreign Language Film (Austria-Ffrance).

Road to the Oscars prt 8

lesmis poster scifidrive

Tomorrow is the big day, Oscars night! That means we have two more films for you in store, Amour and Les Miserables. This post will be on the latter.

Les Miserables a novel by Victor Hugo first published in 1862. In 1980 the musical was acted out on stage. This time the musical is acted out on the big screen with an all star cast; Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried, Eddie Redmayne, Helena Bonham Carter and Sacha Baron Cohen.

The film tells the story of Jean Valjean, an ex-convict who becomes mayor of a town in France. Soon exposed, Valjean agrees to take care of Cosette, the illegitimate daughter of the dying Fantine, but as a fugitive must also avoid being captured again by police inspector Javert. The plot spans 17 years and is set against a backdrop of political turmoil, which in the film culminates in the June Rebellion of France.

It has already won the Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor – Motion Picture Musical or Comedy for Jackman and the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress – Motion Picture for Hathaway. It has also wonfour BAFTA Awards, including the Best Actress in a Supporting Role (Hathaway).

The part of Hugh Jackman is done great, funny to see him without his Wolverine claws. Russel Crowes acting is great too. The thing about this film is that both actors, who have a great reputation and a list of fantastic films, this time do something different. Hearing Crowe or Jackman sing is interesting.

But if I compare this to, Chicago or Moulin Rouge Les Miserables is slow, expcet for the scene in the tarven with Helena Bonham Carter and Sacha Baron Cohen. That is great and funny, but than again both of them can do scenes like this like no other.

This adaption of Les Miserables is visually stunning, the décors are great and something you will never see in a theatre.Together with this all star cast it is a great adition to the musical adaption.

Les Miserables is nominated for:Best Picture, Best Actor (Jackman), Best Supporting Actress for (Hathaway).

Road to the Oscars prt 7

It’s a few days before the Oscars, with three more films to go! And on our route we came across “the life of Pi”.

A young man who survives a disaster at sea is hurtled into an epic journey of adventure and discovery. While cast away, he forms an unexpected connection with another survivor: a fearsome Bengal tiger.

And now you’re thinking, really a boy and a tiger on a liferaft? How can this be anf for 2 hrs to? At least that was what I was thinking.

So the movie. It impressed me from the start. The setting the cinematography, it’s great. The swimmingpool scène of Pi’s uncle swimming and the clouds “reflecting” in it, marvolous. But even though the cinematography and special effects are great this movies is great for its cast. Suraj Sharma who plays the young Pi is excellent. The fear, the will to survive, the despair and surrender to death itself.

The story itself is amazing, not at all of what I was expecting, funny, serious, sadening, miraculeus and amazing.

I would like to end this entry with the following quote from the movie:

“Mr. Patel’s is an astounding story, courage and endurance unparalleled in the history of ship-wrecks. Very few castaways can claim to have survived so long, and none in the company of an adult Bengal tiger.”

Argo poster

We continue our journey with Argo. The movie is based on a true story and is a dramatization of the 1980 joint CIA-Canadian secret operation to extract six fugitive American diplomatic personnel out of revolutionary Iran. The movie has already won a Golden Globe and a BAFTA award for best picture. So I was really looking forward to see this, to see what the fus was about and why it already won the awards mentioned above. After seeing Zero Dark Thirty, which I thought to be a very intense film, I thought what could be so special about a Ben Affleck film and as it turns out … Argo is the best movie by Ben Affleck  ever since Good Will Hunting. From the start it has a hold on you and tension is building and building. It’s by far the most intense movie I’ve seen, with Zero Dark Thirty following very close behind.

The cinamatograpghy is great and that combined with the original news footage of the ’70, which fits right in, gives the movie just that little bit extra. Ben Affleck, John Good Man and the other cast memeber’s make up is so well done that they really look like the actual people involved. All the acting is good, very believable. You can feel their anxiety. The frustation as a viewer builds up as the movie goes alone… and that is way ( to me) it becomes so intense because you can almost “feel” it… It all just gets to you.

To be honest I thought  Argo was just another BenAffleck movie, but it completly took me by surprise,  it’s really a  must see!… And Sci Fi fans enjoy the end!

Argo is nominated for: Best Picture, Performance by an actor in a supporting role (Alan Arkin), Original Score and Adapted screenplay.

Road to the Oscars prt 5

On our road to the Oscars Silver Linings Palybook! The movie is about Pat Solatano (Bradley Cooper) who has lost everything — his house, his job, and his wife. He now finds himself living back with his mother (Jacki Weaver) and father (Robert DeNiro) after spending eight months in a state institution on a plea bargain. When Pat meets Tiffany (Jennifer Lawrence, who already won a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a comedy/musical), a mysterious girl with problems of her own, things get complicated. Tiffany offers to help Pat reconnect with his wife, but only if he’ll do something very important for her in return. As their deal plays out, an unexpected bond begins to form between them, and silver linings appear in both of their lives.

The acting by Cooper and Lawrence is great. The way they interact wih eachother is good. This movies shows that Jennifer Lawrence is a fine actress, emotions are running high in this movie and she does it so well. What she did lack for emotions in The Hunger Games she made up in Silver Linings. Robert De Niro’s  ( nominee for Supporting actor) character is fantastic, I believe this is the first time I’ve seen his cry in a movie, but that could just be me.

The movie just made feel all warm and fuzzy inside. I made feel happy, so there’s my Sliver Lining. I can’t think of anything negative and I am trying here, but no. But Oscar worthy, I don’t know,  but is the feel good movie of the year. The acting of Jennifer Lawrence and Rober De Niro is Oscar worthy. The portaited their charcaters, one could belive that Lawrence is crazy, whity, funny and loveable. De Niro’s too crazy as a bat but a great father figure.

Silver Lining Playbook is nominated for: Best Picture, Performance by an actor in a leading role (Cooper), Performance by an actor in a supporting role (De Niro), Performance by an actress in a leading role (Lawrence), Performance by an actress in a supporting role (Jackie Weaver),  Achievement in directing, & Adapted screenplay.
