Movie Talks

Movie talk

Month: August, 2012

Yesterday I believe I would never have done what I did today.

Cloud Atlas, untill the extended preview trailer, I have not heard of  it before. altough I love to read I even never heard of the book (2004 by David Mitchell) before. Which I will read as soon as I get my hands on it, anyway I am drifting of already:), back to the upcoming movie. I have watched trailer a dozen times already, which for most movie I only do once, but this trailer its just great. I made me think on what the movie is about, and it hit me ( after seeing the trailer for the first time), it is something ( and I don’t want to sound like some ….) I have read before in the books by James Redfield (Celestian Prophecy).

Past, present and future, and all are connected, in some odd way I actually believe this to be true. People you’ve met in this life you have met  before, esspecially those very close to you, be it in another situation, other relationsship but always the same people and facing the same problems and this is were Buddhism kicks in. In Buddhism they say that Nirvana  (the state of ‘ultimate’ peace) is reached, if one has faced all their problems and has solved them only then your life(s) is( are)done, you have reached ulitimate peace.

I haven’t thought about this for along time, and now…well food for thought and time read up! Stefan Arndt ( Run Lola Run) and the Wachowski brothers bring us Cloud Atlas with the tag line”everything is connected “according to Buddhism and “The Force” this is true.

I am really looking forward to see this, and I hope Cloud Atlas delivers for it could be one the best movies on life since What Dreams May Come (Robin Williams, Cuba Gooding Jr. & Annabella Sciorra) and Tree of Life ( Hugh Jackman & Rachel Weisz) which are also  themes that fit right in with Could Atlas and are highly underrated (but that is just my personal feeling).

Cloud Atlas Starring Tom Hanks, Hugo Weaving, Halle Berry, Hugh Grant, Susan Sarandon Jim Broadbent, Jim Sturgess, Doona Bae will be in cinemas October 26th 2012 ( US ) and for Holland November 26th.

Faster than a speeding bullet….. Man of steel

The First, The Legend, The Man of Steel. Out there to protect us from has since 1933! Yes that is right since 1933! Superman one of the few survivors from Krypton and created in a time of great depression. The world was in turmoil and changing fast. Unemployment rate in the U.S. was around 25%, and in some countries rose as high as 33% and effected poor and rich countries alike. It was during this time Superman was “born”!  People needed a hero to look up to, fighting crooked businessmen and politicians, but this is speculation. Funny aspect is that Superman first motion picture, starring the late Christopher Reeve as Clark Kent/Kal El, came to the big screen in the late seventies when we were on the verge of a economic crisis.

The creator himself said that Superman may have been inspired “due to the death of his father in 1932, a year before Superman was created. “Your father dies in a robbery, and you invent a bulletproof man who becomes the world’s greatest hero” ( theory by Gerard Jones and Brad Meltzer . (source wikipedia).

So here we are 2012 amidst an other world wide economic crisis and here comes Superman! This time the movie is in the capable hands of  Zack Snyder, who brought us 300 and Watchmen, and Christopher Nolan who we know has done a very great job on The Dark Knight Trilogy! So What can we expect from this team? If we have a look at the trailer we can see battered Clark Kent, far far away from the ever so happy, clumsy and bright Clark Kent we know from The other Superman movies. Is this Man of Steel struggeling in these hard economic times? So far I do not know what to expect from the Superman except that after having seen The Dark Knight Rises and Watchmen I am really looking foward to see Man of Steel.

Remake? Reboot? Or are we turning to Superman again in this chaotic time because we need a Superman to give us that feeling of safety, that everything will be fine, that there is someone who ‘protects” us?

Man of Steel starring Henry Cavill, Russell Crowe and Amy Adams. In cinemas June 14, 2013.
